
THE STORY OF eDWIN.
In the picturesque town of Irachi, part of the Palanda canton in the province of Zamora Chinchipe, lived Edwin Calva, a farmer whose life was deeply rooted in the land he cultivated.
hARD WORK.
The son of farmers, he had grown up among his family’s coffee plantations, but his story was much more than a simple tale of cultivation; it was a journey of passion, challenges, and hope.
Edwin fondly remembered his childhood, when he spent hours helping his parents on the farm. The aroma of ripe coffee, the birdsong, and the sound of the wind rustling the leaves had become the soundtrack of his life. His father, Don Juan, taught him to value every stage of coffee cultivation, from planting to harvesting. “Coffee is like life,” Don Juan used to say, “it requires patience, dedication, and a little love.”

CHALLENGES.
Over time, Edwin took over the family farm. Although his love for the land was unwavering, the path was not easy. He faced numerous challenges: the fluctuating price of coffee, diseases affecting the plants, and, above all, climate change, which was beginning to alter rainfall and temperature patterns. The difficulties were many, but Edwin was determined to keep his family’s tradition alive and improve his farm.

SELF-EDUCATION
Edwin began researching and learning about new cultivation techniques. He attended seminars and joined local farmers’ associations to learn best practices. This is how he discovered the importance of shade-grown coffee, a technique that helped protect coffee plants from extreme temperatures and conserve soil moisture. With determination, he adapted his farm to these new practices, planting trees around the coffee plants and using organic fertilizers instead of chemical ones.

COMPETITIONS AND FAIRS.
As the quality of his coffee began to improve, Edwin decided to explore beyond the local market. He participated in coffee competitions and fairs to promote his product. Although it was difficult at first, his efforts soon began to pay off. His coffee, known for its unique flavor and distinctive aroma, began to receive recognition in national and international competitions.
This success was reflected not only in sales but also in the life of the community. Edwin reinvested part of his profits in local projects, organized workshops for other farmers in his community, and shared his knowledge of sustainable farming and fair trade. His commitment to the community and the environment became a model to follow.

A BENCHMARK PRODUCT FOR THE REGION.
Over time, Edwin’s farm became a benchmark in the canton. The farm not only produced high-quality coffee but had also become a place of learning and growth for other farmers. Edwin continued working in the fields with the same passion as always, but now he did so with a renewed sense of purpose and fulfillment.

GRATITUDE.
Every morning, before dawn, Edwin would venture into his coffee plantations, watching the coffee cherries glisten with the morning dew. He felt a deep connection to the land and gratitude for the journey he had undertaken. He knew that success was not only the result of his own effort, but also the fruit of his family’s legacy and the dedication of his entire community.

DREAMS.
At the end of each day, Edwin would sit on his porch with a cup of freshly brewed coffee, watching the sunset over the mountains. In that moment of tranquility, he would reflect on his journey, grateful for the opportunities he had had and for the life he had built. His story was a testament to perseverance and passion, proof that with hard work and dedication, dreams can become reality.
